Reading Exercises

Students always get to select the topic of the passage they are going to read. This makes it more likely that they are reading for the purpose of understanding what is written rather than as a pure exercise.

The primary purpose of the reading exercises is to build/rebuild confidence. Poor readers always have low confidence in their reading and our first priority is to get that confidence up. On the first read through each word in the passage is highlighted in turn. The student hits the spacebar to move on to the next word or any other key to hear the word spoken.

On the second read through each word is highlighted in turn automatically at the same rate the student read at in the first pass. The words the student asked for help with are spoken automatically by the system.
